Schoolwide Action Plan
The Guam Department of Education implements the Common Core State Standards & the GDOE Standards and Performance Indicators. The curriculum utilizes grade level material that incorporates research-based teaching practices catered to meet the needs of all learners.
In addition to meet the needs our special population students, we have the following programs:
CHamoru Language and Culture Program (CLCP) K-5
The CHamoru Language and Culture Program (CLCP) services all students to provide and implement educational programs that will revive and maintain the language and culture of the indigenous people of Guam. Chamoru is the language of instruction. Instructional methods used by teachers include Total Physical Response (TPR), Natural Approach, Language Experience Approach, Whole Language, Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP), Functional-Notional Approach, and other second language methods.
GATE (Gifted and Talented Education)
THE GATE program services eligible students for 180 minutes per week in the GATE resource room. The curriculum designed for students in this K-5 program incorporates activities designed to promote independent learning and higher order thinking skills.
E.S.L. PROGRAM (English as a Second Language)
THE ESL program services students who have been identified as eligible participants based on their home language survey and/or oral tests.
SPECIAL EDUCATION
All students will be placed in the least restrictive environment. In the event a child has been identified with a disability, the child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team will determine if he/she is in need of special services that can be accommodated in the Special Education/Resource Room. If the child has been identified as needing such services, he/she is expected to be placed in this room for the number of minutes required as outlined in their IEP. In the event a child demonstrates adequate progress, the team can re-evaluate the IEP to determine if the child can return to the mainstream classroom.
ASPIRE
The After School Program for Instructional Remediation and Enrichment (ASPIRE) is to provide more opportunities for our students’ mastery of the Common Core State Standards.
